November Newsletter

Goodness! Where on Earth did October go? We’ve been so busy with Knit City, dyeing yarn, getting prepared for winter, and Halloween, that it whooshed by…practically without notice! Whew!

I hope you all have had a successful start to your winter, too! Now that the craziness of getting winter kicked off (including a bit of early snow and some wild wind storms around the province of BC), it’s time to settle in and get ready for Christmas. Yes, I said it…Christmas! I’m a HUGE lover of winter knitting…snuggling on the sofa with a warm blanket and a big mug of tea (or coffee…possibly with Carolans), watching Christmas classic movies and knitting. And whether you are a Christmas craft or a purchased present (with crafting on the side) type of gift-giver, we have plenty in store for you! There are some new items with more coming all the time, and we now have in-store Ravelry sales (meaning we can sell selected Ravelry patterns to you directly!!), so there’s no need to fret! I have all sorts of ideas for projects of a Christmas-crafty or a winter-project nature.

I’d also love to host another knit along shortly. Is anyone game for it? Ideas for projects? A shawl perhaps? MY shawl, perhaps? Something colourwork? Another sweater? Let me know what you think, and we’ll get it up and running right away.

New Products this month

Ravelry in-store sales! If you are someone who loves the patterns on Ravelry, but doesn’t prefer to shop online, we now can sell you many Ravelry patterns right here in our shop!

Katia Big Paint yarn: a pretty, single ply, bulky 80% acrylic/ 20% wool, yarn in two different self-striping colourways. At 100g/109yds, the ball is big enough to knit a hat with a large pom pom, and each ball comes with a small pattern leaflet.

Katia Azteca Infinity: a giant 150g/524yds of 53% wool/47% acrylic in long, shifting gradient. These are super soft, and are enough to make a small shawl or a scarf, and each ball includes a small pattern leaflet.

Twill & Print lapel pins & a fantastic maker keychain! This Quebec-based company makes the cutest pins and things! Come in and see the selection.

King Cole Riot DK: four fun colours of a 30% wool/ 70% acrylic, single ply yarn. These 100g/324yds balls are nice and soft with long multi-coloured gradients.

Bernat Softee Chunky Twist: a super-bulky 100% acrylic yarn in a fun, marling twist. 80g/84yds. Currently, we have only a few colours in stock, but there are more available (including large 300g balls), and we are willing to order for you if needed.

Universal Yarns Deluxe DK Superwash: a soft and sturdy superwash wool yarn, in 100g/284yd balls. We’ve only just started bringing these in, but the colour selection they have is amazing! We will be bringing in more of these pretty yarns each order.

Saltwater Classics by Christine Legrow & Shirley A Scott: the long-awaited follow-up book to the Saltwater Mittens book (which we also have in stock)! This book, aside from being a Canadian treasure trove of stories, has fantastic mitten, glove, trigger mitt, hat, cap, and vamp patterns for the whole family. Get your copy soon! (these make fantastic Christmas gifts, too!)

There are also many new colours of current items in the shop and on their way, so be sure to come on in and check them out!

Well, seeing as we can now take down our Halloween decorations, let’s talk about Christmas!! It’s not too soon (or too late) to think about making your own adorable Christmas decorations. Tree decorations, stockings, swags, and home items like pillows or blankets. To be honest, typing “Christmas” into Ravelry’s pattern search is a great way to find a plethora (and do I EVER mean PLETHORA) of patterns…it’s so hard to choose just a few!! Don’t get overwhelmed…use the fantastic filter options to narrow down what you’re looking for. Let’s go check some out:

Crochet Christmas Lights Decorations by Marinke Slump – a cute string of colored “lights” to decorate your tree or mantle.

Mini Stockings by Marianna Mel, or Christmas Mini-stockings by Michele Bernstein (both free on Ravelry) – sweet miniature knit stocking to decorate the tree or your Christmas packages.

Crochet Christmas Pickle Ornament by Stacey Trock or the Knit Christmas Pickle Ornament by Pattern Recogknition, both free on Ravelry

Darling Christmas Mittens by Jennette Reid – miniature crochet mittens that make a great gift topper, or tree decoration, and take only a tiny bit off yarn to make!

The Santa Cloth by Kris Knits – a sweet free knit dishcloth pattern featuring Santa! A quick, simple Christmas gift or addition to your own kitchen! I might just have to make some myself…hmm…

Crochet Christmas Gnome by Liesbeth Braam – adorable red and white (or any colour, really) gnomes for gifts or mantles.

September Newsletter

Ohmigosh! My September newsletter has almost become an October newsletter. It’s been nothing but crazy and wonderful over here this month (I’ve got so much good news, and even a coupon code!)…I hope your month has been awesome, too.

What a wonderful Summer it has been! Sun…and rain…but we’ve been beautiful and green AND smoke-free all summer, and I won’t complain about that. But as much fun as Summer has been, now that I feel the cool nights, and the trees are changing colour, I’m getting super excited about SWEATER WEATHER! Fall is one of my most favourite times of the year (*hello* back-to-school!) and I love the cool nights, fall leaves, and definitely the lack of mosquitoes. It’s almost time to pull out your warm socks and sweaters, cuddle up with caramel lattes or spicy teas, and do some Netflix & crafting! Woot woot!

I’ve been working on sweaters all Summer, how about you? If you haven’t been, don’t fret. There’s still time to get cracking on cold-weather items before the snow flies! Come on in, and we can go over what you need to warm yourself and your family up this winter. Our monthly sale aligns well with sweater making, too!

Sale –  All Month:
10% off Sweater Quantities! When you buy an adult sweater pattern (or bring one in) and purchase the yarn to make it, you will receive 10% off the cost of the yarn to make it. If we’re short on a specific yarn, don’t worry, we can add it to our backorder list for the sale price!

There are still plenty of yarns on deep discount in the shop, as we try to make room for Fall yarns. Definitely come in and check them out!

Exciting News and Knit City!

This month, I’ve been working hard to finish my new shawl pattern, and I’m so proud to say I’ve finally done it! The Glasswork Shawl has been released on Ravelry, and I’m so pumped to share it with you! For all my lovely Newsletter subscribers, you can use the code NEWSHAWL on Ravelry until September 30, 2019 to receive 15% off this new pattern. Now, if you are not a Ravelry user or shopper (though what are you waiting for?) printed patterns are currently at the printers, and as soon as I have them in my hot little hands, I’ll let everyone know!

The shop will be closed at 1pm October 3rd (a Thursday), and all of October 4th & 5th (a Friday and Saturday) as I’ll be heading to my first ever Knit City event in Vancouver! Knit City is a huge knitting conference, with shopping, classes and other events at the PNE in Vancouver, BC. If you haven’t been, you should definitely go! I’m looking forward to meeting current suppliers and possibly finding new ones, and getting to meet some of my favorite online people. I’ll be at the Knit City Knit Night on Thursday, and both Sat & Sun I’ll be shopping and visiting at the show. I’m also taking a Punchneedle class on Sunday and am so excited to learn something new! And for my other exciting news…if all goes well with shipping from the printers, my Glasswork shawl pattern should be available for purchase at the Black Cat Custom Yarn booth, along with my original sample to view!!! I can’t even tell you how excited I am! Yay!
If you’re going to Knit City, maybe I’ll see you there!

Want to try out one of the needlecrafts that are so hot right now? Make pillows, wall hangings, rugs…anything you can imagine! Adorable and handy Impossible Knot Kitchener Keychains, created by the talented Burning Impressions right here in the Cariboo! These wood, foot-shaped keychains have the Kitchener Stitch cheat written right on them as a reminder, as well as a sock needle gauge and our logo.

Bernat Baby Velvet – some of the softest medium-weight chenille yarn around! We’ve brought in 4 soft colours to start. Perfect for baby blankets, but soft enough you’ll want to make yourself some scarves and cowls, too! 300g/492yds, 100% polyester.

We’ve had a restock of Black Cat Custom Yarns! There are also new colours of many products in the shop, so come on in and have a look!

Have a fantastic Fall!

June Newsletter

We’re finally into June!!

Warm weather. Summer. Vacations and basking in the sun (or shade, if that’s your thing!). Ice tea, barbecue, corn on the cob, and watermelon. Summery dresses. I LOVE summer! Lounging at the beach and watching the kids play in the water, drinking something cold in the shade…and knitting. Heaven!

What’s your favorite Summer past time? Do you love to stay in and relax? Get out and travel? And don’t forget International Knit in Public Day is June 8th!!

While I know a ton of us are so busy that it’s difficult to fit in crafting, there are a TON of projects that are perfect for Summer and travelling. Small, portable projects, summer tops, fun games for the kids…you name it! And this month, sales reflect the patterns I’ve chosen today.

Trunk Show
Yes!! A Trunk Show!!

It’s true! Black Cat Custom Yarns will be coming to our shop on Wednesday, June 19th, and will be bringing their entire store of Black Cat Yarn!

There will be so much yarn to touch and pet (and buy) – more bases and colours than I have in store – as well as the chance to meet the Black Cat team in person. They’re great peeps!! This is a fantastic opportunity to see the full range of colours, and mix and match to make perfect pairings (hello! Fade sets, anyone? I know *I’ll* be looking for yarn for a fade shawl I want to knit!)

We’ll have snacks and refreshments during the day, you’ve got to keep up your energy! As this is our regular Sit & Stitch day, you’ve now got another great reason to come out and visit and show Black Cat some 100 Mile House love.

A summer-long exploration of the many Local Yarn Stores here in Northwest Canada.
This fantastic yarn crawl runs from June 14th to September 15th, and we are once again a participating retailer! You can find your passport with all the stores listed, in my shop, and there are plenty of coupons included. Get it stamped at every location! There are yarn stores in Northern BC, Alberta and even one in the NWT that are participating. So if you are planning on traveling north this summer, this is a great way to see what each town has to offer.

The Yarn Crawl culminates in a Fibre Festival in Prince George on September 22, with door prizes, workshops, demonstrations, a fashion show, art, music, and more!

For all the crawl and festival information, please check out their website at

New Yarn this month:

A warm welcome to Impossible Knot’s own hand dyed yarn, All Points North! Currently all one of a kind colourways, there will be an ever-changing and increasing stock. Most will be 115g 80% merino/20% nylon fingering weight sock yarn that is perfect for either socks or a garment project.

Come on in and check them out!

This month’s pattern roundup uses either Super Bulky (like Bernat Blanket) for small crafty items,  or DK yarns (like Sirdar’s Cotton Prints, Cascade’s Ultra Pima, or even a light DK like Universal Yarn’s Bamboo Pop) in (mostly) free patterns from Ravelry. Small, fun, light projects like these are great for Summer projects, when you want to have a few moments to craft, but don’t want a large, hot project on your lap!

Water Balloons by Kirsten DeSchover – a free crochet pattern to make reuseable water play toys with chenille yarn (like Bernat Blanket). No more dead little rubber balloons to pick up in the grass! Just pop back in water to get them wet for throwing each time. Wash and dry and put away for another day of play once done!

Knitted Water Balloon by Reney Trelenberg – not free, but a very inexpensive knitted balloon pattern for only $1.50 on Ravelry (if you want to learn more about purchasing patterns on Ravelry, just talk to me!!)

Stash Basket by Bernat Design Studio – a free crochet basket pattern in Bernat Blanket yarn. A great pattern to stash all the extra things you might need a basket for.

Bunny Blanket Buddy by Lion Brand Yarn – a free, sweet & fuzzy knit lovey that makes a quick soft gift for new babies or toddlers.

French Macaroon by The Noble Thread – I’ve posted this before, but it’s a simple, adorable free knit baby sweater which would be amazing worked up in Cascade Ultra Pima – a DK pima cotton, or Universal Yarn’s Bamboo Pop, a light DK bamboo/cotton blend. Cool and soft for baby!

Moroccan Tote by Sol Rencoret – a free crochet pattern for a lovely cotton tote. This would be beautiful made from Cascade Ultra Pima cotton, with such a range of colours to choose from.

Lavender Cardigan by schneckenstrick – a free knit pattern for a lightweight, short-sleeved cardigan that buttons only at the top. This would be a great summer sweater, knit out of Ultra Pima or Cotton Prints DK.

If you need any help figuring out Ravelry, or how to purchase or download a pattern, please feel free to stop by the shop and I can give you a quick tutorial on it’s use. I love Ravelry!!
Have a fantastic June!

Small projects can help you keep your crafting mojo during these Spring months, and busy days.

Sunday & Mondays: Closed
Saturday 20th: Closed for Easter!

New Products in Store!

This past month has been super busy! We’ve brought in several new yarns and fun products, restocked all of our yarns, needles, & tools, and brought in plenty of new colours for lots of our favourite yarns.

The Gleener! It’s a blade-free pill and fuzz remover for all your items (even delicates!) An amazing product you’ve got to see…we have one in the shop to check out!

Say Hello to Drops Design yarns! We’ve started out modestly with 4 new yarns:

– Drops Alpaca: 6 colours of a sport weight, 50g/ 183yds 100% Alpaca yarn that would be fabulous for any super-soft, light weight project. Can we say summer items or heritage-quality baby items?
-Drops Fabel: 5 colours of 50g/ 224yds, 75% superwash wool/ 25% polyamide, self patterning wool for making fab socks! And it has a fantastic price point, too!

Wisdom Yarns Wacki Saki: It finally came! Limited amounts of 5 colours (don’t worry, we’ll order more, now that we know how awesome it is!) of a 100g/ 462yds, 50% Superwash Merino/ 25% Bamboo/ 25% Nylon self-patterning sock yarn with a great price. This yarn is the same as the Saki Bamboo, but in a ball format and self-patterning! They’re as soft and awesome as we had hoped they’d be.

-Red Heart Collage: 3 fun colours of this jumbo 141g/ 55yds, 80% acrylic/ 20% wool yarn, for soft, lightning-fast projects!

There are also new colours in lots of our in-stock yarns: Universal Yarns Major, Katia Infinity Shawl, Hayfield Baby Blossom Chunky, Sugarbush Drizzle, Universal Yarns Bamboo Pop, Mirasol Nuna, Cascade Ultra Pima, Circulo Anne, and Regia Sock yarns. Come on in and check them out!

Knit alongs!!

Well, we’ve been having a bit of an unofficial sweater KAL (knit along) here at the shop. It’s the ever-popular, boxy Weekender Sweater designed by Andrea Mowry, and it’s going swimmingly! We’ve got 5 ladies in different stages of knitting the sweater in different yarns and they are all looking fantastic so far! Mine is shown here in a Briggs & Little Durasport (a Canadian sportweight wool/nylon blend) held double with Sugarbush Drizzle (a laceweight Kid Mohair/ silk blend) and it is absolutely soft and fuzzy (and so warm!). It’s in the shop, if you want to come check it out.

Want to do a KAL with us??

I’m so excited to do another Knitalong!! It will hopefully be a Free Your Fade shawl, by Andrea Mowry, but don’t worry…you’ll have tons of time to think about joining, or even suggest another shawl or project (maybe a light weight t-shirt top??), as I believe we will start this one sometime mid-May!
This specific pattern is a really relaxing garter stitch with eyelet rows and endless fade and color possibilities. It’s worked up with 3 colours in the pattern, but can be done solid, or with as many as you’d like (hello, need to use up some stash bits?!)
How the KAL works is: We will finalize the project near the beginning of May, and give everyone two weeks to get their supplies in order, and then have a dedicated cast-on date (say…Mid-May?). We will be having regular weekly meet-ups in the shop, as well as  a Ravelry page to post photos and questions in (and I’d LOVE folks to join in with that), and we will have a draw at the end of the KAL (I think 3 months should be a good) for something fun!

Thank goodness for March! The unsettled months (where they can’t decide what the weather should be) are starting, but it’s getting brighter, for longer, every day. And that makes me so happy! Being able to drive home in the daylight is sustaining me until the summer weather and late days (and productivity) are here.

Are you longing for Summer and warmer weather? I sure am! And with the warmer weather comes gardening, and travelling, and of course warm-weather crafts, like travelling projects, crafting with cotton and linen, and small projects like socks and dishcloths that aren’t too hot on your lap! January Newsletter

Happy New Years, my crafters!!

I hope you all had a wonderful holiday season, with lots of love, laughter, and happiness. The New Year is a great time to look back on the past year, on all your successes, be they big or small, and to look forward on the year to come: with all it’s potential and possibilities! I know my little shop has come so far this last year, and all my successes are because of you. I am so happy to have you all as customers!

January is not just for reflection, it’s also a time to craft. It’s time for self-love projects. Time for all the projects for *YOU* that get set aside in lieu of gifts for others.
What do you plan to make for you, this year? Hopefully, it’s something you’ve always wanted to make 🙂 I’ve decided to start the year off with a sweater for myself. Something simple, but from pretty yarn. Something I can wear everyday if I want…and oh, how I want (especially with all this snow!). I can’t wait! Would you like to knit or crochet a sweater, too? A few customers and I are thinking about making sweaters together, and would love more folks to join in! I’ll be knitting the Weekender sweater by Andrea Mowry (see link below in Pattern Roundup). I have a few more patterns in shop for this, or it can be easily purchased on Ravelry. Or, you can choose something you’ve always wanted to make! Get togethers for knitting on Wednesdays Sit & Stitch or possibly Saturdays in the late afternoon? Say, mid-January, to let folks get supplies together? Let’s do this!

This last month, we received plenty of hand dyed yarn! So much new Black Cat Custom Yarn – in Everyday Sock and Double Double, as well as their Let’s Get Worsted base (and it won’t be long until we receive 4 colours of their bulky Stay Puft base, too!) and Ancient Arts Yarn – in their Socknado and DK bases. So much fun to play with!!

We also received super fun patterns from popular knit designers like Andrea Mowry, Joji Locatelli, and Stephen West (and so many more)! Need a new project? I have shawl, hat, and sweater patterns to get you started crafting this January!

We have tons of fun accessories and tools, and just today have received a shipment of Rose & Purl handmade luxury faux fur Pom Poms! I can’t wait to put one on my new hat!

Last year, we had a ton of eyelash yarn donated to the shop from someone’s stash. We offered them in our shop, by donation only, with proceeds to go to our local SPCA (which does not have a branch, and is completely volunteer!). We collected $70 in proceeds and handed it over in December! We are so proud to help out this local organization, and so very proud of all our customers that donated to this wonderful cause.

We have classes and Troubleshooting Tuesdays set up for January and February. Go check out the Classes & Meetings page on our website!

I thought today I would share my absolute favourite knit sweaters on Ravelry. There are so many amazing patterns, and I want to try them all! Maybe this year, even!

Sipila by Caitlin Hunter – a top-down circular knit colourwork sweater in fingering weight that positively SHINES in hand dyed yarn.
The Weekender by Andrea Mowry – a drop shoulder, boxy sweater that works up amazingly quickly in worsted weight yarn. This will probably be my first sweater of the year…anyone want to join in and knit it with me??
Beekeeper Cardigan by Marie Greene – an open, textured 3/4 sleeve cardigan. I hear that this is so fun to knit!
The Rose Cardigan by Andrea Mowry – a pretty cabled open cardigan, worked in a fade of sport weight yarn. I might just need to source sport weight yarn for the shop, just for this sweater!
Poet by Sari Nordlund – to view on Ravelry, but currently only available in the Laine Magazine issue #6 (available in my shop). The Poet is a beautiful, top-down seamless sweater worked in fingering weight yarn, with lace front and back. This pretty pullover is very high on my list!
V-neck Boxy by Joji Locatelli – a super-boxy, v-neck sweater worked top-down in fingering weight for plenty of ease, but no bulkiness. I just love light-weight sweaters for Spring and lounging, too!

Wednesdays Sit & Stitch
Every Wednesday at 1pm, we have a stitchy get together right here in the shop. Bring your current WIP (work in progress) and come visit over coffee or tea!

Troubleshooting Tuesdays and all regular knitting classes have been suspended until the fall, since I know you folks are all so busy with Summer and vacations! You can still come on in for help, and I will do everything in my power to help you fix or sort out any problems you may have with your knitting. If you want a private lesson for knitting, it can be arranged with prior notice, just call the shop or come on in!

Summer projects are small projects!!! Small projects are prefect for taking traveling or on vacations. They don’t take up much space or yarn, and aren’t hot on your lap when it’s roasting outside! They also work up satisfyingly fast (admittedly my favorite part!) I love, love, love small projects!

Here’s a few of the free ones on Ravelry that caught my eye, and I’m sure I’ll try a few in the next while. How about you??

Sugar n Cream Dishcloth by Diana Lee – a staple knit in a corner to corner dishcloth – who doesn’t love getting gifted dishcloths?!

Woven Dish Cloth by Carrie Fleming – a change from the standard dishcloth, a pretty knit woven-look cloth.

French Market Bag by Alexandra Tavel – Crocheted in worsted weight cotton, these are quick, fantastic bags to move towards plastic-bag-free shopping!

Classes and Events:

Magic Loop Knitting – How to cast on a single or double item on one long circular.
July 11, 5-6:30pm $20
I know what people say, but truuuuust me! Magic Loop is so easy! We will be learning to cast on and work a magic loop with both one and two at a time items on a long circular needle. No specific project to work on (unless you’d like to cast on socks or another project – remember to bring your yarn and pattern!). Basic knitting skills are required (long tail cast on/knit/purl).
Supplies: Yarn and a 40″ circular needle to match the yarn weight.

Simple Yarnover Lace Neckerchief- Advanced beginner
July 17th and 24th, 10-12 (Two 2 hour classes)
Learn how to start with a garter tab, create basic yarnover lace panels, and learn a basic increase to create the Southbeach Neckerchief. Super fun-to-knit tiny shawl out of DK weight yarn. Pattern is supplied prior to the class. As this is a repeating pattern, the shawl will be started in class but completed at home, with the second class for helping with errors (or casting off, if you’re a speed demon!)
Required to know basic cast on, knit and purl, as well as cast off.
Supplies: One skein Black Cat DK weight yarn (280 yards) or similar weight yarn , 4mm 32″ or 40″ circular needle, and wool needle to weave in ends.

Gauge Swatches! What are they for and why on Earth would I ever want to make one??
July 20, 5-6pm. $15
– This is a short lecture class with examples and a handout. No tools required (unless you want to take notes!)
Look, I know you are excited to knit and just want to dig into your new project…but I promise – gauge swatches are super important!! Learn to take the time to swatch and why it can really up your knitting game. You don’t have to be the person who knits a sweater that will only fit giants. This will teach you how to make a swatch, how to fix incorrect gauge, and when you really don’t need to knit a gauge. Bonus: simple blocking is also explained!!
Private lessons:
Have questions or need instruction that will take longer than 15 minutes or so? Private lessons can be scheduled, dependent on teacher availability, for $29/hour.

Let’s talk about cotton! Specifically, Cascade’s Ultra Pima DK…a beautiful, mercerized cotton garment yarn that works up soft and shiny. It’s amazing! The colours are vivid and the yarn is machine washable. It’s perfect for summer projects!
A few free patterns for DK cotton that caught my eye on Ravelry are:

Ein Tag am Meer, by Corrina Tengler – a quick-knit stripy sleeveless top that is perfect to show off Cascade’s lovely colors.

Vanier T-Tunic, by Jennifer Ozses – a lacy crocheted tunic with a deep v back.

French Macaroon, by The Noble Thread – an adorable easy garter knit sweater for babies and toddlers.

82-6a Crocheted Cardigan, by Drops Design – a Summery, mesh crocheted cardigan (and there is also a mesh tank design to match) available on Drops website.

167-6 Woodstock, by Drops Design – a fluttery knit tank with an allover-back lace design. Available on the Drops website.

The Best Mermaid Tail, by Elizabeth Seeley – an adorable crocheted mermaid tail that can be made in any size.

So many patterns are available for free! Be sure to search on Ravelry or your favorite pattern archive for awesome summer projects.

Happy Crafting, Everyone!

I don’t know about you, but I can’t wait for summer and camping, lake visits, barbecuing, watermelon, kids playing in the sun, and knitting while drinking an ice tea (who are we kidding…it’ll probably be an icy cider or a glass of wine!) in the shade.

New Yarns this month:

Only a couple new yarns this month:

Black Cat Custom Yarn Double Double – Double Double is the DK weight yarn from this Canadian (BC!) hand dyer. 115g skeins of 100% merino wool in 9 semi-solids and 8 variegates. It is a firm yarn that would make fantastic shawls and sweaters with a ton of stitch definition. I can’t wait to try a fade with some of these colours!

Black Cat Custom Yarn Everyday Sock – Four new bright colours are in the shop!

Briggs & Little Tuffy – It’s finally in! A medium weight 2 ply yarn in 80% Pure wool and 20% nylon, from Canada’s oldest woolen mill. 113g skeins. This wool makes fabulous sweaters, mitts, or heavy socks – the Briggs & Little Heavy Socks pattern is in stock as well.

Giveaway Results:

Both giveaways last month were a great success! The Addi Flexiflips for Mother’s Day were won by Vera, and the month-end prize pack of Knitters Pride interchangeable Cubics, Cable, and Cascade cotton yarn were won by Dallas. So happy for each winner. Enjoy!

New Phototastic CollageDon’t forget that our shop has partnered with Knitted Knockers Alberta, and we are looking for volunteer knitters to donate yarn and time to this awesome cause.

Knitted Knockers are a volunteer made breast prosthesis for women
who have had a mastectomy. They are a soft, lightweight alternative to the standard gel filled prosthesis that many women find heavy and hot to wear. Knitted Knockers fit into a regular bra where they take on the shape of a real breast. They are provided free of charge to women who have had a mastectomy.

Let’s talk about Ravelry. If you are an avid knitter or crocheter, you should definitely be using this website!

Looking for patterns? Looking for patterns for specific yarns/weights/needle size? Looking for information about yarn brands? Need a digital place to keep track of your yarn stash or current WIPs (works in progress)? Looking for a social media platform specifically for knitters & crocheters? RAVELRY!!

With an extremely robust search engine and huge selection of paid and free patterns, groups and chat groups, as well as a huge database of yarns (even discontinued yarns!), and a blog with pattern roundups on their home page, Ravelry has so much for every knitter and crocheter. It’s a free service, though you do need to sign up to use it (I don’t receive any spam from them, don’t worry!).

Aside from pattern searching and favourites options, one of my favourite features of Ravelry is the ability to cast on a project and keep track within their program, straight from the pattern page. It gives me options to attach photos, put all gauge and yarn info in there (as well as dye lot information and where you bought and how much you paid for your yarn – Impossible Knot is in their database!), as well as updates with notes and % completed. I love keeping notes, as I rarely make a pattern without making changes! You can also view other people’s projects to see if a pattern is easy, or has tricky spots, or if you want to see what different yarns are like with the pattern.

If you are interested in using Ravelry, and are confused where to start, feel free to come on in and I will give you a little tour or tutorial, so you can get started.

New Yarns this month:

This last month has been super quiet. The only new yarn received was some beautiful Malabrigo Rios. 100g skeins of worsted, hand dyed Peruvian Merino. There are five colours in stock and they are oh, so soft!!
I have a great project set aside that will be beautiful in this yarn: the Hillview Road Cowl. It’s a lovely slipped stitch cowl, worked in the round, that is a simple, quick project. I can print you a copy, if you’d like to try it out in the Rios!

Now that I have your attention, we are going to have two needle (and yarn!) giveaways this month!

The first giveaway is for a pair of Knitters Pride Cubics interchangeable needles in 5mm size and one cable (in any length). These are laminated wood needles with a square profile, that is considered more ergonomic than traditional round needles, and easier on your hands. These will come with a skein of our lovely Cascade Ultra Pima cotton DK yarn. Super soft and shiny, you can pick the colour of your choice!

To enter, just come on into the shop and drop your name & number into the giveaway box! The value of the giveaway is $30, and the winner will be picked May 31st.

The second giveaway is for a set of Addi Flexi-flip Double Pointed needles in 2.75mm. I have a new order of them on their way to the shop and can’t wait to share them with you!! Flexi-flips are an innovation in sock knitting. They have three double pointed needles with a small flexible cable in the center of each one. One end of each needle is a standard point and the other is a lace point, so they are very versatile. The reviews of them are excellent!

To enter, just come on into the shop and drop your name & number into the giveaway box! The value of this giveaway is $29.95, and the winner will be drawn May 13th, just in time for Mother’s Day! (you know you need some beautiful new sock needles for Mother’s Day!

For all our giveaways, pretty please – only one entry per person!
