Summer is here! Although early June feels pretty chilly here in 100 Mile House, it won’t for long! I don’t know about you, but I can’t wait for summer and camping, lake visits, barbecuing, watermelon, kids playing in the sun, and knitting while drinking an ice tea (who are we kidding…it’ll probably be an icy cider or a glass of wine!) in the shade.

PLAYING WITH STRING YARN CRAWL!
This year, I am so excited to be part of the Playing With String Great Northwest Yarn Crawl and Fibre Fest!! The Crawl starts June 15th, and ends in a fibre fest in Prince George on the 9th of September, which includes prizes, workshops, and a fashion show.
To join in, just come on in to any participating yarn store (we’re listed on the website) and pick up a passport (my passports are on their way, still). Get your passport stamped and take advantage of the special store coupons on the bottom of the booklet page at each participating shop. We’ll have 10% off one purchase coupon for us.

Black Cat Custom Yarn Double Double – Double Double is the DK weight yarn from this Canadian (BC!) hand dyer. 115g skeins of 100% merino wool in 9 semi-solids and 8 variegates. It is a firm yarn that would make fantastic shawls and sweaters with a ton of stitch definition. I can’t wait to try a fade with some of these colours!
Black Cat Custom Yarn Everyday Sock – Four new bright colours are in the shop!
Briggs & Little Tuffy – It’s finally in! A medium weight 2 ply yarn in 80% Pure wool and 20% nylon, from Canada’s oldest woolen mill. 113g skeins. This wool makes fabulous sweaters, mitts, or heavy socks – the Briggs & Little Heavy Socks pattern is in stock as well.
Giveaway Results:

Troubleshooting Tuesdays!
Having problems with reading a pattern? Can’t remember how to fix a mistake in your knitting? Every other Tuesday, our knitting guru, Helen, will be available from 1 to 3pm for our free drop-in Knitting 911 at the shop. Bring in your project or questions on June 12 & 26th.
Wednesdays Sit & Stitch
Every Wednesday at 1pm, we have a stitchy get together right here in the shop. Bring your current WIP (work in progress) and come visit over coffee or tea!

Have questions or need instruction that will take longer than 15 minutes or so? Private lessons can be scheduled, dependent on teacher availability, for $29/hour.
Don’t forget that our shop has partnered with Knitted Knockers Alberta, and we are looking for volunteer knitters to donate yarn and time to this awesome cause.
Knitted Knockers are a volunteer made breast prosthesis for women
who have had a mastectomy. They are a soft, lightweight alternative to the standard gel filled prosthesis that many women find heavy and hot to wear. Knitted Knockers fit into a regular bra where they take on the shape of a real breast. They are provided free of charge to women who have had a mastectomy.

Let’s talk about Ravelry. If you are an avid knitter or crocheter, you should definitely be using this website!
Looking for patterns? Looking for patterns for specific yarns/weights/needle size? Looking for information about yarn brands? Need a digital place to keep track of your yarn stash or current WIPs (works in progress)? Looking for a social media platform specifically for knitters & crocheters? RAVELRY!!
With an extremely robust search engine and huge selection of paid and free patterns, groups and chat groups, as well as a huge database of yarns (even discontinued yarns!), and a blog with pattern roundups on their home page, Ravelry has so much for every knitter and crocheter. It’s a free service, though you do need to sign up to use it (I don’t receive any spam from them, don’t worry!).
Aside from pattern searching and favourites options, one of my favourite features of Ravelry is the ability to cast on a project and keep track within their program, straight from the pattern page. It gives me options to attach photos, put all gauge and yarn info in there (as well as dye lot information and where you bought and how much you paid for your yarn – Impossible Knot is in their database!), as well as updates with notes and % completed. I love keeping notes, as I rarely make a pattern without making changes! You can also view other people’s projects to see if a pattern is easy, or has tricky spots, or if you want to see what different yarns are like with the pattern.
