Peer Gynt has been a classic since 1938, and is especially well suited to traditional Scandinavian sweaters (and garments of all kinds!). Made from Norwegian wool, it’s light yet warm, durable, and naturally resistant to pilling. The wool’s elasticity helps garments keep their shape, while wear over time only adds softness. Breathable and long-lasting, Peer Gynt garments rarely need washing (airing is usually enough) making it a thoughtful choice for slow, sustainable knitting.
Sandnes Garn suggests: "For machine washing, we recommend that all wool garments be washed separately on a wool program, to ensure the gentlest treatment. Centrifuge well and dry the garment flat, preferably on top of a towel. Never use a laundry bag when washing hand-knitted wool garments. This creates friction that can cause the garment to felt." Here at Impossible Knot, we do recommend hand washing garments made from Peer Gynt, as European wool cycles can be much gentler than North American machines.
