March IKYS Newsletter

Thank goodness for March! The unsettled months (where they can’t decide what the weather should be) are starting, but it’s getting brighter, for longer, every day. And that makes me so happy! Being able to drive home in the daylight is sustaining me until the summer weather and late days (and productivity) are here.

Are you longing for Summer and warmer weather? I sure am! And with the warmer weather comes gardening, and travelling, and of course warm-weather crafts, like travelling projects, crafting with cotton and linen, and small projects like socks and dishcloths that aren’t too hot on your lap! I have less evenings knitting and watching Netflix, and more days knitting at the lake or park. Oh, I can’t wait!Sales: In preparation for the warmer weather to come, this month’s sales are all about cotton!!

PATTERN ROUNDUP:

New Phototastic Collage

With the cotton yarns on sale this month, there are plenty of free easy, breezy patterns on Ravelry to work up in them (and not just your usual dish cloths, either!)

Summer Vacation Top by Mama In A Stitch –  a quick-knit tank top, using DK yarn held double. This free pattern would be perfect for the Universal Yarns Bamboo Pop or the Cascade Ultra Pima

Spring Showers Shawl by Maria Bittner – A crochet shawl pattern (available free on her blog) that would look amazing in several shades of either the Universal Yarns Bamboo Pop or Cascade Ultra Pima.

Two-Colour Cotton Cowl by Purl Soho –  a pretty, two-colour fishermans rib knit cowl using a sport weight yarn for a brioche-type look. This would be absolutely fantstic in the Universal Yarns Bamboo Pop or even more substantial in the Cascade Ultra Pima DK.

Baby Hat with Top Knot – Tegan by Julie Taylor – A simple DK knitted baby hat that is perfect for the beginner knitter! Try it in the super-soft Cascade Ultra Pima.

Color Block Market Tote by Jenn Palmer – Of course I need to add a crochet market bag! It’s a no-brainer for this waste-concious time we live in, and how cute are they! Any of the sturdy craft cottons in the store will make these lovely bags.

Ballband Discloth Reuseable Swiffer cover by Noelle – A fantastic knitted pattern for those of us that like to reduce and reuse! No need to buy any more disposable Swiffer covers!

Easy Hacky Sack by Heidi Gustad – a fun, soft ball to play with crochets up quickly in worsted weight craft cotton.
