We’re finally into June!!
Warm weather. Summer. Vacations and basking in the sun (or shade, if that’s your thing!). Ice tea, barbecue, corn on the cob, and watermelon. Summery dresses. I LOVE summer! Lounging at the beach and watching the kids play in the water, drinking something cold in the shade…and knitting. Heaven!
What’s your favorite Summer past time? Do you love to stay in and relax? Get out and travel? And don’t forget International Knit in Public Day is June 8th!!
While I know a ton of us are so busy that it’s difficult to fit in crafting, there are a TON of projects that are perfect for Summer and travelling. Small, portable projects, summer tops, fun games for the kids…you name it! And this month, sales reflect the patterns I’ve chosen today.
Yes!! A Trunk Show!!
It’s true! Black Cat Custom Yarns will be coming to our shop on Wednesday, June 19th, and will be bringing their entire store of Black Cat Yarn!
There will be so much yarn to touch and pet (and buy) – more bases and colours than I have in store – as well as the chance to meet the Black Cat team in person. They’re great peeps!! This is a fantastic opportunity to see the full range of colours, and mix and match to make perfect pairings (hello! Fade sets, anyone? I know *I’ll* be looking for yarn for a fade shawl I want to knit!)
We’ll have snacks and refreshments during the day, you’ve got to keep up your energy! As this is our regular Sit & Stitch day, you’ve now got another great reason to come out and visit and show Black Cat some 100 Mile House love.
THE GREAT NORTHWEST YARN CRAWL
A summer-long exploration of the many Local Yarn Stores here in Northwest Canada.
This fantastic yarn crawl runs from June 14th to September 15th, and we are once again a participating retailer! You can find your passport with all the stores listed, in my shop, and there are plenty of coupons included. Get it stamped at every location! There are yarn stores in Northern BC, Alberta and even one in the NWT that are participating. So if you are planning on traveling north this summer, this is a great way to see what each town has to offer.
The Yarn Crawl culminates in a Fibre Festival in Prince George on September 22, with door prizes, workshops, demonstrations, a fashion show, art, music, and more!
For all the crawl and festival information, please check out their website at www.playing-with-string.com/
New Yarn this month:
A warm welcome to Impossible Knot’s own hand dyed yarn, All Points North! Currently all one of a kind colourways, there will be an ever-changing and increasing stock. Most will be 115g 80% merino/20% nylon fingering weight sock yarn that is perfect for either socks or a garment project.
Come on in and check them out!
This month’s pattern roundup uses either Super Bulky (like Bernat Blanket) for small crafty items, or DK yarns (like Sirdar’s Cotton Prints, Cascade’s Ultra Pima, or even a light DK like Universal Yarn’s Bamboo Pop) in (mostly) free patterns from Ravelry. Small, fun, light projects like these are great for Summer projects, when you want to have a few moments to craft, but don’t want a large, hot project on your lap!
Water Balloons by Kirsten DeSchover – a free crochet pattern to make reuseable water play toys with chenille yarn (like Bernat Blanket). No more dead little rubber balloons to pick up in the grass! Just pop back in water to get them wet for throwing each time. Wash and dry and put away for another day of play once done!
Knitted Water Balloon by Reney Trelenberg – not free, but a very inexpensive knitted balloon pattern for only $1.50 on Ravelry (if you want to learn more about purchasing patterns on Ravelry, just talk to me!!)
Stash Basket by Bernat Design Studio – a free crochet basket pattern in Bernat Blanket yarn. A great pattern to stash all the extra things you might need a basket for.
Bunny Blanket Buddy by Lion Brand Yarn – a free, sweet & fuzzy knit lovey that makes a quick soft gift for new babies or toddlers.
French Macaroon by The Noble Thread – I’ve posted this before, but it’s a simple, adorable free knit baby sweater which would be amazing worked up in Cascade Ultra Pima – a DK pima cotton, or Universal Yarn’s Bamboo Pop, a light DK bamboo/cotton blend. Cool and soft for baby!
Moroccan Tote by Sol Rencoret – a free crochet pattern for a lovely cotton tote. This would be beautiful made from Cascade Ultra Pima cotton, with such a range of colours to choose from.
Lavender Cardigan by schneckenstrick – a free knit pattern for a lightweight, short-sleeved cardigan that buttons only at the top. This would be a great summer sweater, knit out of Ultra Pima or Cotton Prints DK.
If you need any help figuring out Ravelry, or how to purchase or download a pattern, please feel free to stop by the shop and I can give you a quick tutorial on it’s use. I love Ravelry!!
Have a fantastic June!
